In fact, I do recommend switching to this particular edition of Outlook client in such cases, as the users alike you also want to see their mailbox secure enough no matter what.

I have seen people switching to Outlook, leaving behind their old school email clients like Mozilla Thunderbird, or a like one. Additionally, I have also seen people worried about their mailbox that may get damaged while migrating from their respective mail client to Outlook. If we see, mailbox migration could be risky or may result in data loss, especially using an unauthorized migration tool.

As far as migrating from Thunderbird to Outlook Mac 2011 is concerned, I do recommend acting wisely because you have to transform your Thunderbird mailbox into its corresponding Outlook for Mac data file. Before that, you need to configure your email in Outlook client. See how you can set up your Exchange account in Outlook.

  • Open Outlook on your Mac and click the Continue button on pop up screen.

(You may not see this pop-up if you have opened Outlook before.)

  •   If no such pop-up appears, click Tools menu and select ‘Accounts…’ from the context menu.
  • On the Add an Account screen, click the ‘Exchange Account’ option.

(We are setting up a Microsoft Exchange Account in Outlook for Mac 2011 client.)

  1. Below the “Enter your Exchange account information”, provide the following information:
    • Enter your email address in the ‘E-mail address’ field.
    • From the ‘Method’ drop down list, select User Name and Password.
    • In the User name field, enter your Domain\user_example.com.

(You can find this in the Contact information section in your Control Panel.)

    • In the Password field, enter your email account password.
    • Make sure the “Configure automatically” check box is unchecked.
    • In the Server field, enter your webmail value

(Find your webmail value in the user information section in the Server field in your Control Panel.)

    1. Click the Add Account button to continue

(Note: You might need to enter S04\ instead of DOMAIN\.)

  • On the next screen, check the “Always use my response for this server” check box, and then click the Allow button.
  • In the Account description field, enter a name for your account.

(You will see this newly created account in the left pane.)

  • Now, close the Accounts window.

You have to wait until Outlook downloads all the email messages from the Exchange Server. In case your Thunderbird client has a non-exchange account configured in it, you have to export your email messages from Mozilla Thunderbird to Outlook Mac 2011 manually. Convert your Thunderbird mailbox to its corresponding Outlook for Mac data file, and then import that file into Outlook client.

Once your Outlook client finishes downloading the email messages, you have to import your contacts into the Outlook client. I recommend you to export only the First Name, Last Name, and Email Address out of each contact, and then enter the rest of the information manually while in Outlook.

Note: You cannot export Groups to Outlook for Mac 2011 from Mozilla Thunderbird.

  1. On your Mac, open Mozilla Thunderbird.
  2. At the top of the window, click the name of the Address Book that you want to export to the Outlook client.
  3. Click the Tools menu and select Export from the context menu.
  4. In the Save As field, enter a name for the contacts file.
  5. From the Where menu, select the destination to save the contacts file.
  6. From the Format menu, select the Comma Separated option, and then click Save.

(In case you have multiple Address Books in Thunderbird client, repeat the same steps for others as well.)

  • After the export process finished successfully, close the Address Book and the Thunderbird client as well.
