The Messaging app ‘WhatsApp’ has been constantly adding new features to serve its wide user base which contains billion-plus monthly users. Recently WhatsApp included features i.e documents support, mentions, and GIF support.

Earlier this year, WhatsApp introduced the voice calling feature and it left us with a question that when do we get video calling feature?.  Finally, that question has been reached to WhatsApp and it’s started rolling out WhatsApp Video Calling to everyone.

Before WhatsApp video calls were part of the Android beta app for those who had signed up, but now WhatsApp has announced that more than one billion users will be able to make video calls on iPhone, Android and Windows Phone devices in the coming days.

All the video calls made on the app will be end-to-end encrypted just like messages and voice calls.

WhatsApp has over 160 Million monthly active users in India which is highest for any country. Seems like this is the reason why the company is rolling out the Video Calling feature in India first.

What’s the big deal when other chat apps provide it way before?

Yes, it is sort of special, WhatsApp says that quality will be optimized for networks in India and adjust according to it. The video calls will automatically adjust down to low resolutions in case of weak networks and when using a Wi-Fi or 4G it will be HD quality.

WhatsApp will also let you switch from front to back camera in the middle of a video call. You can also send a text message to the person without disconnecting the video call.

How to Use it:-

  1. Select the person you want to video call.

  2. Tap on the phone icon at the top right of the screen.

  3. Select Video Call from the popup.

Note your friend will need to be on the upgraded version of the app with the video calling feature for them to receive the call. If you no longer ready to wait for official rolling out on your device then you can download the APK file from APK Mirror here.

WhatsApp has already emerged as the popular app for instant messaging. Seems like by including the video calling feature WhatsApp wants to make sure that no stone is unturned. What do you think of WhatsApp video calling? Let us know in the comments.
