How To Install / Update Windows 8.1 Preview

Few days back Microsoft released the preview of next version update to Windows 8 operating system. Most likely Microsoft advertise windows 8.1 OS as the most secure OS. In this they fixed the lots of security vulnerabilities. They announced a bug bounty for windows 8.1 to check and increase the security features. Its played to make confidence to the user end on the fixes done by them. It also come with lots of cool features compare to windows 8. Windows 8.1 will available as free update for the Windows 8 by later this year.

 

Note : Windows 8.1 is only available as a customer preview, not final product

Before moving into the Upgrading process make sure that your PC matches the minimum requirement.

  • Processor: 1 GHz or faster
  • RAM: 1 GB (32-bit) / 2 GB (64-bit)
  • Free hard disk space: 16 GB (32-bit) / 20 GB (64-bit)

Upgrade Windows 8.1 Preview on Windows 8 PC

Installing windows 8.1 preview is much easier, if you are using the windows 8 already. This is done by simply use the Get Update option available in the Microsoft windows 8.1 preview download page. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/preview-download.

Note : You must  installed Windows 8 to view this update option.

A update file will be downloaded. Open the downloaded file and install the Update.

Generic windows Updater will open and install the update in the existing windows 8 PC. This is not exactly the 8.1 update. This is the preliminary update, just like preview of the product before upgrading to the windows 8.1

After the update process finished, the updater window will prompt to restart the OS. On the next run of the windows will prompt the banner to get the windows 8.1 update simply click on the Go to store button. (Note: Make sure that you are connected to the internet).

In Windows store Download the 8.1 Preview update. Download Size 2.44 GB. Download will be done in background, so you can resume your work, until the download complete.

Fresh Install Windows 8.1 Preview

If you are not having Windows 8 previously in your PC, then download the appropriate ISO available from http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/preview-download as per your requirement. Even you can use this method to do a clean install of your windows 8 PC. DVD and USB methods are clearly explained below.

Install using DVD

  • Burn the downloaded ISO file to the DVD.
    ( Note: You can also use Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool, This tool will also supports windows 8)
  • Boot from the DVD to Install the windows 8.1
  • Installation process as similar to the previous versions of Windows 8 / Windows 7

Install using USB

Here we explain how to create a bootable USB of Windows Operating System with the help of Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool in 4 steps. Before follow these steps Download the windows 7 USB DVD Tool and Install in your PC.

Step 1 : First open the Windows 7 USB DVD Tool and Locate the downloaded ISO .

Step 2 : Choose the media type (DVD/USB). Select USB device.

Step 3 :  Choose the Drive of your USB Drive. (Tool will format your USB drive, before copying files)

Step 4 : Begin Copying the files to USB drive.
