Now a days all the people use USB Flash drives like Pendrive, External Hard Disk and Many more. They all skipped DVD, CD and all optical Disc because it takes time to copy and it cannot be reused. So USB Pendrives are now with all people. I used to see all over my college, they hang USB pendrive in their necks. They carry Music, Movies, Datas in that. How USB flash drives improves as the mean while USB virus also increases along with that.

If you have some nasty virus on USB drive that hide all your file in the drive? ie; hides your files and folders, creates exe file extensions of your folders and even corrupt your files. You can view these files by going to Tools>>Folder Options ..But the attributes of these files often stay unchanged even if you uncheck hidden attribute on file/folder properties.

Here i going to tell the Permanent Solution for recovering hidden files by Command prompt in windows operating system.

Step One:

Plug your USB Pendrive or External HDD or Memory Card which is Affected.

Step Two:

Go to Start -> Run-> Type CMD and Enter

Step Three:

Find the drive letter for the connected USB drive. For Example, I:

In command prompt, type I:

and Hit enter. Command Prompt will show I:/

Step Four:

Then type

attrib -s -h /s /d *.*

Make sure that you put space between each elements in the code.

and hit enter and wait for few seconds.

Check the Screen Shot of Above Steps:

Now check your USB pendrive you can see your files are back in their locations. If you have any doubts get our Solution Group at facebook www.facebook.com/groups/tech2hell

Wow, this is truly amazing, I mean, it worked..All the word files in my usb were hidden for, like, a long long time already and I can’t find any solutions, I already tried different antiviruses but nothing happened, they were still inaccessible. unfortunately it didn’t work for me. The memory flash icon says that it is full but when i open it a file which is named marijin is just there , which i can’t delete. i am sure that i have data but there is a problem either with flash memory or my computer.

Hey Vincent, Thanks for the info and help. I got the Memory card Reader and i try to deduct but it is still not working. Maybe it is highly affected. The hidden files did not appear. The Memory card is 2GB. I’ve used 1.14GB and the free space is 743MB. It shows some files is hidden but i can’t still see anything. I noticed that about 10 Folders has been created with kind of chinesse language since it was infected with virus. It’s not deleting. I’m planning of formating the memory card. Thanks for the help once again. I know you have so much to offer.

This is perfect. The comp at my college where I work infected my drive. IT claimed it wasn’t possible. Your fix allowed me to access my files though I still have a bunch of weirdly-named mysterious files that I guess I’ll just manually delete.

hi, my external hard drive has 230 GB of data, but most of it is hidden. the names of the folders are showing when I start a scan, and the properties option shows 230 GB being occupied, but the files are not visible on the hard drive. if its not workin, follow this

1) Install Ubuntu inside windows(Later can easily removed from “uninstall programs”)
2)connect the infected hdd
3)delete all the virus files…(Ubuntu will show all the virus as files as no virus can affect Ubuntu)
4)now connect to windows
5)File still not visible….?”Now enter attrib -h -r -s /s /d g:\*.* (Assuming ‘g’ as infected drive, if yours is ‘h’, replace ‘g’ with ‘h’ )
(Step 5 is given in a diff format by vincent raja…so it can be used as step 5 )

Thank you very much. It worked perfectly fine. My whole college is facing the same problem with our pendrives. Some have files hidden while some have them converted into shortcuts. Does the command works for the shortcut problem as well? I would like to know more about the virus: how it spreads, where the virus file is located, etc. Does the command you provided us with remove the whole virus in the pendrive or just unhide the files?
I would also like to know if the virus affect a host computer that is plugged-in with an infected pendrive.

hi..i’m having trouble with my harddisk. i have a lot of files in it, but it only shows one file “.part” 4KB. what is that mean? it happened just after i restore my laptop to factory setting. is there any relation? i’ve tried insert harddisk on other laptop, and it can show all folder and file, but the folder is corrupted/hidden.. how can i fix it so it can show content on my laptop? please help me..

I tried what you said, and cmd lists all my folders, but “Access Denied” is infront of all of them. I went into the My Computer folder to check the drive, and all my folders are still hidden. It did however create a “Recycler” folder — but of course it’s a dead end. What else can I do? How do I get it to say “Access Granted” ??

Alright, I did this and it recovered my hidden files on the pendrive, but my missing files are still missing. I know the files have to be there, though, because the memory availability is exactly where it was when all my files where present.

Useful trick, although it only worked for me doing it one bye, eg:

attrib -s -h /s /d

because my infected hardware was a USB HDD and the cmd prompt would stop at the system folders of the drive, not going over the rest of the folders. Finally I didn’t have more than 20 of them, so it was pretty easy.

Remember, if this happens to you as well as me, don’t try to change attributes to every single subfolder and / or file, only to the root folders; this will suffice.

It Don’t help me. My external hard disk has a virus that has hidden the file total (Doesn’t show if you mark SHOW HIDDEN FILES scan it by antivirus doesn’t find the virus) only if you know the name of the folder and type it in above in the direction box then you can open one by one and copy the data to computer. I have also try it in Ubuntu there you can see all the files and copy it to computer and back to hard disk then it’s normal.How do I git rid of this not to have coping it all????

followed all the stps given above, but after hitting enter,the following msg in refelected in the screen is:

Access denied – G:\System Volume Information

Wht to do now….It was my 500gb hard drive..

My 500 Gb Hard drive had some folders… and i hv given it one of my frnd…after receiving back, i found that the space in drive as it is bt the some folders is not there…when i opt to show hidden files and folders in the Folder option…again no folders is there…i hv one tool i.e. Disk Explorer installed in my PC , when i analyze/explored my drive using that tool, all the missing folders is showing in that tool. When i see the folder properties of those folders, In Attribute section wht i see is that Green square (not tick mark) Read Only option is checked and also Hidden option is tick marked (not green square) but this hidden option is dehighlighted i.e i can’t change that one…When i searched over net i found a software called Attribute changer-7 using which we can change attributes. But problem is when i right click on my hard drive and click Change attribute, there are lots of option…

So anyone pls guide me in changing attributes. I’m confused Which option to check and which to uncheck.

One more thing is that in mydrive one folder is there called “System Volume Information”. When I try to open that folder, a window containing message is being reflected. The msg is as follows” G:\ System Volume Information is not accessible” and in 2nd line “Access is denied”

So pls anyone olve my prob as soon as possible….i am very much afraid of my data in those folders..pls suggest a successful step by step method to solve this without losing any data.

Be in mind that my all folders are not viewable even clicking Show hidden folders but when I explres it in a disk explorer software, it shows all my files and folders. Also when i see drive space in my computer, it is full. Pls solve my prob…

Can i delete these folders…is my drive will create prob if i delete those folders…pls help

Pretty simple and useful trick to get the files back. this wont work if the pen drive is dead. with similar pen drive detection issue, if you cannot open the drive, then its clear the pen disk is dead. it can happen due to some voltage problem etc.,

Thank you Thank you Thank you!! I first want to say that I downloaded the site recuva from when I searched about incidents like this happeneing. It only was able to recover a few files so I still was freaking out! I came upon this website and tried this action several times before it actually worked, but it did!! Thank goodness!! I have learned my lesson and will now save in 2 locations…on my flash drive and dropbox!! Thanks again!!! The best part too is that I didn’t have to pay anyone!! Whew!!!

      Recover the Files in ur Pendrive.. Dont plug it again. Format your PC n Reinstall the WIndows and Install Antivirus then use ur Pendrive in your PC

Hey listen, I have around 2GB of my important files on my USB. My USB has storage of 4 GB, and at afternoon I moved my files from previous USB onto this new one. Everything worked out fine, but i didnt press “Remove Safely and Eject”, instead i just pulled it out. Now when i plug my USB back into my computer, when i go to ‘My Computer’ I can see that it says 700MB free of 4GB, but when i go inside the USB, i can only see files of 1 GB. I cannot find the files I uploaded this afternoon .. I know they are there because it does say 3GB is being used but when i go in, i only see files that hold 1 GB. My important files of 2GB are there but i cannot seem to find them. I know they are not hidden because i went in folder options and pressed view hidden files, i tried what u did but that didnt seem to work.

  Folder Options / View Hidden Files wont reveal all system kinda files. It will show up normal files and Folders.
  Most of the times the files & Folders will be Converted to System files and hidden by the special attributes. So it can not be revealed in normal Folder Opitons / View Hidden Files. You have to follow this post information or use our tool to recover it in safe way. Thank you.

my mom was so worried her files were gone. we thought the IT guy at her workplace had done something intentionally lol. not good with technical computer stuff here. checked another website before this one and the method wasn’t exactly correct. it was, but i didn’t know i had to press Enter at one point. :p cmd always scared me. guess it’s not at all the troll i used to think it was. haha. thanks a lot, man!

Hello
I have a problem in my laptop since yesterday
My windows is 8, 64 bit
When i was searching in a site suddenly my laptop system got restarted. And when my laptop screen came back every thing startet functioning very slow.
I went to my computer item and saw one of the drives (f) was hide. And did not work. I repaired windows with bootable windows 8 but still did not work . When i pushesh ctrl – alt – del, in processes of task manager i see capacity of disk is 100 % that i think there is a unknown virous in my pc. Please help me that to prevent from formating windows and be able to keep my information thank you very much

Hi sr… that cmd worked for my usb the first time… then i lost my files again, and now it doesn’t work.

My only bone I have to pick with you is your recommendation for TINYEYE, this extension sucks big time 99% of the time it doesn’t identify pictures I’ve sent to it and no way does this extension beat Google Images. Google Images identifies more pictures than Tinyeye hands down. I have more success with Google Images.
